The NEOGEO AES+ lineup continues to grow. During a closed media presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2026, PLAION REPLAI revealed four additional cartridge releases for the upcoming system, bringing more classic Data East titles back to physical NEOGEO hardware.

Four New AES+ Cartridges

The newly announced titles are:

• Karnov’s Revenge / Fighter’s History Dynamite – the sequel to Fighter’s History, bringing Data East’s arcade fighting action back to the AES.
• Magical Drop II & III – probably the most interesting release of the group because both games will be included on a single 2-in-1 cartridge. Players will select Magical Drop II or III when starting the cartridge.
• Street Hoop / Street Slam / Dunk Dream – Data East’s fast-paced 3-on-3 arcade basketball game.
• Spinmaster / Miracle Adventure – colorful run-and-gun/platforming action filled with yo-yos, explosions and classic Data East style.

So while PLAION announced four physical cartridge releases, they actually represent five games thanks to the Magical Drop II & III combination.

Another Big Step for the AES+ Library

What makes this announcement especially interesting is that all four releases come from Data East’s NEOGEO catalog. Famitsu reports that these titles were presented during the private AES+ media session, indicating that the necessary licensing for these games has been secured.

This is important because the AES+ project is starting to go beyond simply reproducing the initial selection of SNK titles.

We already saw something much more ambitious with Zero Wing, a game that never originally existed on NEOGEO. The new version started as a fan-made NEOGEO conversion before being turned into an officially licensed release with TATSUJIN.

Now we are seeing another direction: bringing additional officially licensed publishers and their NEOGEO libraries into the AES+ lineup.

The Pictures Tell an Interesting Story

The presentation image is also interesting because PLAION shows the different regional identities of the games side-by-side. We can see names such as Street Hoop / Street Slam alongside the Japanese Dunk Dream, while Spinmaster is paired with Miracle Adventure.

And Magical Drop gets special treatment, with both Magical Drop II and Magical Drop III sharing one AES+ release.

The AES+ itself was playable at TGS 2026. Unlike many modern retro systems, this isn’t simply a miniature console with built-in ROMs: it uses physical NEOGEO cartridges and retains compatibility with original NEOGEO software and accessories. Famitsu also reports that the new AES+ cartridges are intended to work with original NEOGEO AES hardware.

More Games, Please!

This is another encouraging announcement for the NEOGEO AES+ after what we have seen at TGS.

Zero Wing showed that entirely new NEOGEO conversions are possible. Now these Data East releases show that PLAION can also expand the catalog through additional licensing agreements.

That potentially opens the door to a much larger library than the games originally announced with the system.

And that is exactly what I want to see next: more games.

Not only reissues of famous AES cartridges, but also more MVS titles, licensed games from other publishers, and especially arcade games that never received an AES version during the original NEOGEO era.

If Zero Wing can happen, what comes next?

The AES+ is becoming much more interesting.
